Facebook: Answering Life’s Eternal Questions

Prior to the ceasefire in the latest incarnation of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, this image of two men in New York asking a perfectly reasonable question was published on Facebook and went viral.

Really. Given all we know and regardless of where we come from, why can’t we all just get along?

Far be it from me to claim to know the answers to life’s great questions, but I suspect it might have something to do with people like Lindsey Stone. Despite working for a disability charity, which implies a passing acquaintance with concepts like taste and America’s pride in it’s military history, Lindsey visited the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia, with a friend, posed for the above picture and then posted it on her Facebook account.

This too has gone viral, outrage is peaking and Lindsey became the subject of a successful Facebook campaign to oust her from her job. She has responded by stating she “OBVIOUSLY meant no offence.”

And there was me thinking the whole getting along thing was complicated. It’s so OBVIOUS when someone takes the time to explain it. Cheers, Facebook!
