FEMEN: What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Holding a woman by the throat is a perfectly acceptable means of restraint in Brazil. Just be really, really careful to cover her body with a towel first.

We wouldn’t want to offend anyone, would we?

FEMEN: Exposing The ‘Sanctity’ Of Marriage

Image via facebook.

An anti-gay marriage march in Paris on Sunday was disrupted by topless FEMEN protesters who let off smoke bombs and chanted ‘In Gay We Trust’. So incensed by the intrusion into what they obviously considered to be their territory, some marchers, including an otherwise respectable looking ‘gentleman’ in glasses and a red anorak (0:30), responded by chasing, kicking and punching the protesters.

No wonder they’re so desperate to keep marriage between one man and one woman.  I’m pretty sure these guys wouldn’t be anywhere near as handy with their fists if they were married to a bloke.

Ikea vs. FEMEN: Lock Up Your Sofas!

Ikea Hamburg, this morning. Sticky. Images via facebook.

Members of the feminist protest group FEMEN shouted in an unladylike manner, trod on some furniture and may even have spilled greasy body paint all over a cushion during a protest against Ikea’s recent decision to airbrush women out of the Saudi Arabia version of their catalogue.

It appears there is no end to the hate crimes these woman are prepared to commit in pursuit of their cause.

Fournié & FEMEN: Women With Their Weapons

FEMEN have been accused of many things, but being the inspiration behind a piece in a haute couture collection has, so far, not been one of them.

Given designer Julien Fournié’s bio, we should have seen it coming. The guy is a pot of poster paint away from a full blown feminist protest.

Dressed To Impress: Activism With A Sartorial Edge

In case you’ve been looking for me, my support of the FEMEN movement, the Free Pussy Riot campaign and the government & corporate accountability that the existence of Wikileaks provides, now dictates I can only leave the house dressed like this.

It might look peculiar, but I can assure you I’ve worn more ridiculous outfits out in public. I’m confident I can pull it off.

Pussy Riot: Martyrs For Mobilisation

The whole ‘hoping this would just go away’ policy was not working out for the Russian authorities. Image: REUTERS/Mikhail Voskresensky.

Three members of a Russian punk band arrested for singing a protest song in an orthodox church have been sentenced to two years in jail.

In her verdict, Judge Marina Syrova claimed that Pussy Riot “committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred” and in doing so offended the church and religious people.

FEMEN: Provocative Enough For Pussy Riot?

A half naked woman chainsawing a bit of wood? I’m a bit disappointed that FEMEN couldn’t come up with something a little more provocative to voice their support for Pussy Riot, aren’t you?

FEMEN: Thwarted By Adrian Chiles In A Liverpool Suit

Images: femen.livejournal.com.

If you’re a European leader with a misogynistic agenda, the chances are you’re going to be receiving a surprise visit from FEMEN at some point in the future.

You know that being photographed fighting with a naked woman is not going to be the best publicity for your cause. But how do you plan for it? How can you fight the reality that most paparazzi have a Pavlovian response to nipples and will follow them wherever they may roam?

Well, you don’t become Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow if you’re some sort of slouch, y’know. The big bearded head of the Russian Orthodox Church, having effectively stepped in front of the FEMEN bus by condemning Russian band Pussy Riot for performing in a church, took evasive action – appointing Adrian Chiles in a Liverpool FA Cup 1996 suit as his head of security.

And it bloody worked! Look! There’s a photo above of a half naked woman wrestling with a bunch of priests on the tarmac at Borispol airport near Kiev, and all I can look at is that damn guy and his outfit.

Keep up the good work, FEMEN. If you continue creating photo opps like this, the world will listen and we should have misogyny kicked within a year. Then we can move on to crimes against fashion together.

Note to terrorists. If you’re trying to make a political point, don’t waste time with bombs and guns and violence.

There’s a much more effective way to threaten the very fabric of the civilisation. Get your boobs out** and run around. Even better, hurl yourself at expensive trinkets held so dear by the hierarchy. The panic on the faces of those paid to look after them hints that it might be a surprisingly rich vein.
